Student Visa (Sub-class 500)
Student Visa (subclass 500) allows you to stay in Australia for up to 5 years if you are studying fulltime at an Educational Institution.
This visa entitles you to the following rights:
- Enrol in a program of study that qualifies.
- Include your immediate family (which can include your partner and your dependent child) in your application.
- Submit an online application from anywhere in the world.
- After commencement of the course, work up to 40 hours per two-week period.
Eligibility Criteria:
- You must be at least 6 years old.
- Submit a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) in a fulltime course within the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS).
- Show evidence of your English language skills.
- For the duration of your stay in Australia, you must be covered by Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) from an approved Australian health insurance company.
- You must have adequate welfare arrangements in place while in Australia if you are under the age of 18.
Process for applying for a student visa 500:
- If you live outside of Australia, apply for a visa at least six weeks before the start of your course.
- Allow plenty of time before your current visa ends if you’re in Australia, incase there are any concerns and longer time is needed.

Will I be required to take an IELTS test as part of my Student Visa 500 application?
You may be asked to provide proof of your English language skills at any point during the application process. The IELTS/PTE/ TOEFL are the world’s most common English language competence test for study, work, and migration.

What kind of welfare arrangements must be made for candidates under the age of 18?
- You will need to choose a student guardian which could be a parent, legal caretaker, or a relative over the age of 21. He or she must hold a visa to remain in Australia until you reach the age of 18 or for the duration of your student visa.
- Plan with your education provider for a Confirmation of Appropriate Accommodation and Welfare (CAAW). Request that they issue a CAAW and notify the Department of Home Affairs of your welfare arrangements from start to end.
- If you are a Secondary Exchange Student, you must get the Acceptance Advice of Secondary Exchange Student (AASES) form. Signed copies of the CAAW and attach these documents to the visa application.
- If you are a Foreign Affairs or Defense student, you must get the relevant minister’s approval for your welfare arrangements.
What are the working rights on Student visa 500?
The student Visa 500 permits you to work up to 20 hours per week or 40 hours every two weeks. Once the course begins, you will be able to start your part-time work. International students enrolled in ACT public schools, are permitted to work a maximum of 10 hours per week throughout the academic school year.
Is it possible for me to travel on my visa?
With a valid visa, you are able to leave Australia and return as many times as you wish.
Skilled Independent Visa
What exactly is the Skilled Independent Visa?
For migrants with in-demand skills, the Visa is based on a points system. The visa is by invitation only and allows the applicant to work and study permanently in Australia.
What is the points-based system?
Because this Visa is dependent on points, the more points you earn, the better it is. To be invited for this visa, you must have at least 65 points. At which point an expression of interest must be sent to Skill Select, which will provide you with an estimate of your points. Following the examination, and if an invitation is initiated, the invitation will explain the points required to evaluate the application. Remember when preparing your application, make sure you have enough documentation to back up your claims.

What is the process of applying for a Skilled Independent Visa?
- To begin your application, submit an Expression of Interest through Skill Select.
- Wait for a visa application invitation from the Department of Home Affairs.
- Provide the appropriate documentation to back up your Expression of Interest and demonstrate your eligibility.
- Proof of identity, English results, Partner and Dependant documents, Talent Evaluation documents, and Expression of Interest documents are all examples of documents needed when submitting the application.

Family Visa

Regional Visa
The GSM has a New Regional temporary Visa called the Skilled Work Regional Visa Subclass 491, which is allocated by the Australian government for 5 years. This visa has been described in detail in the “Regional Pathway” segment given below.
In the past few months the government is encouraging regional migration to avoid rush and congestion in the big cities like Sydney and Melbourne. The government has recently closed the existing Subclass 489 Visa and replaced it by a new Regional Visa. In fact, the Department of Home Affairs Australia has introduced two new Regional Visas on November 16, 2019 Subclass 491 Visa and Subclass 494 Visa, which will replace the two existing visas.
